Adam Grant TED Talk

Hello Folks !!

Who are givers and who are takers? Why do organizations need people who are Givers? What are the different types of givers and takers in an organization and how to identify them? These are some of the most important questions that have been discussed by Adam Grant in his wonderful TED Talk on the topic – ” Are you a giver or a taker?”. Watch this wonderful talk in the link below.

Welcome Back !!

Adam Grants tell us that in every organization givers are the best performers and the worst performers. Givers, takers, and matchers are the three kinds of people. The givers ensure all the help needed is taken care of and they miss out on their performance en route, at the same time it is the same givers who ensure the overall performance is met in the long run. It is the takers who are problematic and the matchers are all about maintaining the status quo or equal balance. So they don’t take things beyond a point. So it is the Givers and removing the takers away will help the organization grow. Now the key suggestion to an organization is ensuring the giver doesn’t burn out in the process.

This is the point where I want to talk about, a giver is always a giver, he/she might not be a giver at home and a taker at the office. A giver is always a giver and they can experience burnout in their personal life too. When it comes to personal life we need to be very mindful about ourselves and ask the following question, “Are we givers, are we takers or are we matchers?”

It is true that the most meaningful way to succeed is to help other people succeed, it is also essential to take care of your needs. You cannot just help others save their life by sacrificing your life. You are doing a great thing by helping others move forward but without taking care of yourself you are not thinking about the sustainability of yourself. If you need to sustain what you are doing for a long period of time it is essential to take care of your needs too. Taking care of self is an integral part of helping others sustainably.
