Why you should define your fears instead of your goals | Tim Ferriss | Day 38 – 100 Days 100 Thoughts
Hello Folks,
Philosophies are something we read and keep aside as academic and not useful in day to day practical life. We tend to dismiss the thought of using some age-old philosophies in our lives. Stoicism is one of the ancient philosophies that got a lot of exposure recently, thanks to the Vulcans. In this post, we will be discussing a wonderful talk of the author, podcaster Tim Ferris. He talks about how stoicism helped him in achieving everything how it is the most practical philosophy to implement. Without any further a due watch this wonderful TED Talk on the topic of “why you should define your fears instead of your goals” by Tim Ferris.
Welcome Back !!
In this talk, he gives us two quotes that inspired him the most. I am attaching the screenshots of the same here in case you want to share those quotes in your statuses.
Thanks to Spock, we all know about stoicism. But we don’t want to be Spock and ruin all our relationships(strictly for Trekkies, rest can ignore) but rather we take a cue from Tim Ferriss here and use it to define our worst fears. Defining our worst fears and looking at the worst-case scenario and making plans to prevent that will help us enjoy the process. When we quench ourselves in the name of positivity and fail to address our fears, we tend to take a backseat and settle for less than what we can achieve and deserve. This beautiful philosophy of stoicism will help us move ahead and become a better person.
Even if you think the philosophy of stoicism is not something you want to learn or implement, you can still use this step of defining your fears alone. This one activity alone can make a huge difference in your life. I am concluding this post with a quote from Tim Ferriss in this talk – “And the biggest challenges and problems we face will never be solved with comfortable conversations, whether it’s in your own head or with other people.”
